Measuring system for manual infeed axes

There are some applications in which full automation of auxiliary and infeed axes with decentralized actuators (such as the encoTRive from TR-Electronic) is not economically viable. At the same time there are also high process safety requirements for these manual axes. For such cases TR-Electronic's MG48 absolute rotary encoders with digital display combine manual operation with the precision of a multiturn absolute rotary encoder.
Fully electronic signal processing allows the displayed units to be adapted to the process to be monitored. This means that an infeed axis can display directly in mm for example – a significant help, particularly if users with very different qualifications are operating a machine. In the basic configuration the scaling is stored permanently in the measuring system by the PC software – excluding any manipulation by the user. Four keys, optionally present, provide access to the menu structure of the easily legible, actively lit display. An interface extension is also available for networked applications. As well as allowing readings to be transmitted to a higher level control, parameters such as scaling or offsets can also be transmitted from the control to the display encoder.
The MG48 offers many functions even in the basic configuration:

  • Multiturn without battery
  • Eight-digit digital display
  • Display can be rotated electronically by 180°
  • Scaling freely programmable
  • Maximum 56 preset values selectable via hardware input
  • USB interface for parameterization
  • Electronic reversal of counting direction

The position display is mounted directly on the drive shaft. For this purpose it has a continuous hollow shaft, which is clamped onto the shaft. This shaft also carries the rotary encoder. A driving pin, which engages in a groove/hole in the application flange, prevents the rotary encoder from rotating as well. The handwheel is then mounted on the shaft end as usual.
